Second Prize: Third Prize This contest, which was attended by some 22,000 persons, included over 100 musicians - among them the very best of young master pianists - and a distinguished panel of jurors, music critics, guests of honour, as well as admirers of Arthur Rubinstein from many countries around the world. This immense gathering in Israel, throughout the duration of the events, was in essence a loving tribute to the memory of Maestro Rubinstein, whose art will never be forgotten.
The Laureates Gala Concert (April 11, 1983) took place in Jerusalem with the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra conducted by Mendi Rodan. The prizes were presented by the President of the State of Israel and Mrs. Yitzhak Navon and the guest of honor, Mrs. Aniela Rubinstein.
The most moving feature of this remarkable tribute, which brought the events to a meaningful close, was the recital for Rubinstein by Maurizio Pollini, who travelled to israel especially to pay homage to his beloved friend and fellow-musician. The recital launched the "Hommage a Rubinstein" concert series, extending across the world, initiated by the Arthur Rubinstein International Music Society in honor and in memory of our patron and the greatness of his art. |
